JN Foundation Celebrates Community Champions

The Jamaica National Building Society (JNBS) Foundation has invested more than J$350 million in community development projects over the last twenty 22 years. The Foundation strongly believes in supporting projects and initiatives aimed at Jamaica’s development especially in the areas of education and youth, community development, the arts, health, environment, and crime and safety.
“We always say that it is not the people who get funding from us who are lucky; it’s we who are lucky enough to work with extraordinary people, and organisations, JN Foundation’s General Manager, Saffrey Brown expressed at the signing of a funding agreement with the Jamaica Library Service in April 2012.

Connecting Community Champions through eMedia

Earlier this year, the Foundation developed an eMedia projected called Community Champions. eMedia, or electronic media, is a contemporary term used to describe the dissemination of content online primarily through the assistance of social media channels such as Facebook, Twitter and YouTube.

Social media sites are rapidly gaining momentum in Jamaica. Did you know that there are over 650, 000 Facebook users in Jamaica? Pretty cool huh? Through Community Champions the JN Foundation plans to leverage its social media channels to highlight persons and organizations that work selflessly to contribute to Jamaica’s development.

There are many reasons to honor Community Champions. The JN Foundation hopes that by using eMedia to share and shed light on the work of ordinary Jamaicans who give back to their communities, it will encourage others to become Community Champions.

Giving back is something we should all strive to do. It’s time to TAKE ACT!ON for the benefit of us all.

Do you know anyone who has done something great/commendable within his or her community? Share their story with us. Send an email with the name and contact number of the Community Champion you would like to celebrate to foundation@jnbs.com. Remember to include the words ‘Community Champions’ in the subject of the email. Check next week’s blog post to learn about the work of five ordinary Jamaicans making an extraordinary difference in their communities.
