Dear members,
According to the Jamaica Information Service (JIS) there has been an overwhelming amount of reported cases of Dengue Fever in Jamaica. Kingston and St Andrew has recorded the most cases so far with 480, followed by Manchester with 101, Clarendon with 78, St Ann with 63, and St Catherine with 50. The least affected parish is St Thomas, which has reported four cases.
Here’s how you can protect yourself, and your family in the fight against Dengue Fever:
- Wear long-sleeved clothes and long trousers when going outdoors.
- Apply insect repellent (containing DEET) on the clothes and exposed parts of the body especially when you travel to Dengue Fever endemic areas.
- Use mosquito bed-net (if the room is not air-conditioned).
- Use (with caution) mosquito coils.
- Rid your house, or yard of stagnant water and correctly dispose of your garbage. Avoid dumping your garbage in drains and gullies.
